Red-bellied Woodpeckers at nest hole (Largo)
Stan made this large, natural-looking bird house for our back yard from a log. This pair raised two sets of young in summer 2006 here. In 2007, they were run off by starlings several times, so we closed the opening. Eventually the starlings gave up and the woodpeckers successfully raised at least one chick in the summer, but in another "regular" bird house on the other side of our yard. Gray squirrels opened the hole of this house and raised a family in there in late summer.
