Eastern Glass Lizard (Kissimmee Prairie)

Though it resembles a snake, this is actually a legless lizard. Unlike snakes, they have eyelids, external ear openings, and the jaw is not flexible like a snake. The name "glass lizard" is supposedly because they can "shatter" their tails in pieces when trying to escape a predator.

It is obvious that nectaring insects do not find this thistle horrible at all.
Jeff Lachar, a volunteer at Kissimmee Prairie Preserve SP, was photographed at his camp site holding one of his hand carved walking sticks.
Sad to learn from his brother that Jeff passed away in September 2011.
